Throughout my life as a clarinetist, I've been exposed to and performed in many different types of clarinet ensembles, from small to large.
This page is a homage to the "Clarinet Choir" genre and its history then and now. A great "Clarinet Choir" has the same range, sonic vibrance, and resonating power of any pipe organ something which should always be cherished.
One of my former teachers, Professor Mitchell Estrin, wrote a very nice and concise history of the "Clarinet Choir" movement.
A festival is held by Vandoren every year celebrating "Clarinet Ensembles". If you enjoy or are interested in Clarinet Ensembles like me, I encourage you to think about attending next year.
At Indiana University and the University of Florida, I've been involved with organizing and performing in their clarinet choirs. I appear on both UF's Clarinet Thunder (Bass Clarinet) and Clarinet Choir Classics (Alto/Basset Horn). They are both published by Mark Master's.
I also have some arrangements for Clarinet Choir, including but not limited to Vaughan Williams' Flourish, Daft Punk's Adagio for Tron, and Grieg's Funeral March for Rikard Nordraak. Contact me if you are interested in any of my arrangements or have a request for me to arrange a certain piece.
For information about smaller clarinet ensembles, check out my clarinet quartet, Novacane.
Below are some of the tracks from UF's Clarinet Choir Classics. I am featured in the Alto/Basset Horn movements of Harvey's Young Person Guide. Weber's Oberon and Barber's Adagio were two of my favorite pieces to perform so enjoy!
